RESUMO

Plasmonic nanozymes bring enticing prospects for catalytic sterilization by leveraging plasmon-engendered hot electrons. However, the interface between plasmons and nanozymes as the mandatory path of hot electrons receives little attention, and the mechanisms of plasmonic nanozymes still remain to be elucidated. Herein, a plasmonic carbon-dot nanozyme (FeCG) is developed by electrostatically assembling catalytic iron-doped carbon dots (Fe-CDs) with plasmonic gold nanorods. The energy harvesting and hot-electron migration are remarkably expedited by a spontaneous organic-inorganic heterointerface holding a Fermi level-induced interfacial electric field. The accumulated hot electrons are then fully utilized by conductive Fe-CDs to boost enzymatic catalysis toward overproduced reactive oxygen species. By synergizing with localized heating from hot-electron decay, FeCG achieves rapid and potent disinfection with an antibacterial efficiency of 99.6% on Escherichia coli within 5 min and is also effective (94.2%) against Staphylococcus aureus. Our work presents crucial insights into the organic-inorganic heterointerface in advanced plasmonic biocidal nanozymes.

RESUMO

The development of the embryo sac is an important factor affecting seed setting in rice. Numerous genes associated with embryo sac (ES) development have been identified in plants. However, the function of the DEAD-box RNA helicase family genes on ES is poorly known in rice. Here, we characterized a rice DEAD-box protein, OsRH52A, which was localized in the nucleus and cytoplasm and highly expressed in the floral organs in rice. The knockout mutant, rh52a, displayed partial ES sterility, including degenerated ES (21.0%) and the presence of double-female-gametophyte (DFG) structure (11.8%). The DFG developed from two functional megaspores (FM) near the chalazal end in one ovule, and 3.4% of DFG could fertilize via the sac near the micropylar pole in rh52a. OsRH52A was found to interact with OsMFS1 and ZIP4, both of which play a role in homologous recombination in rice meiosis. RNA-seq identified 234 down-regulated differentially expressed genes (DEGs) associated with reproductive development, including the two genes, OsMSP1 and HSA1b, required for female germline cell specification. Taken together, our study demonstrated that OsRH52A is essential for the development of the embryo sac and provided cytological evidence regarding the formation of DFG.

RESUMO

Porcine viral diarrhea is a common ailment in clinical settings, causing significant economic losses to the swine industry. Notable culprits behind porcine viral diarrhea encompass transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV), porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV), porcine deltacoronavirus (PDCoV), and porcine rotavirus-A (PoRVA). Co-infections involving the viruses are a common occurrence in clinical settings, thereby amplifying the complexities associated with differential diagnosis. As a consequence, it is therefore necessary to develop a method that can detect and differentiate all four porcine diarrhea viruses (TGEV, PEDV, PDCoV, and PoRVA) with a high sensitivity and specificity. Presently, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is the go-to method for pathogen detection. In comparison to conventional PCR, TaqMan real-time PCR offers heightened sensitivity, superior specificity, and enhanced accuracy. This study aimed to develop a quadruplex real-time RT-qPCR assay, utilizing TaqMan probes, for the distinctive detection of TGEV, PEDV, PDCoV, and PoRVA. The quadruplex real-time RT-qPCR assay, as devised in this study, exhibited the capacity to avoid the detection of unrelated pathogens and demonstrated commendable specificity, sensitivity, repeatability, and reproducibility, boasting a limit of detection (LOD) of 27 copies/µL. In a comparative analysis involving 5483 clinical samples, the results from the commercial RT-qPCR kit and the quadruplex RT-qPCR for TGEV, PEDV, PDCoV, and PoRVA detection were entirely consistent. Following sample collection from October to March in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, we assessed the prevalence of TGEV, PEDV, PDCoV, and PoRVA in piglet diarrhea samples, revealing positive detection rates of 0.2% (11/5483), 8.82% (485/5483), 1.22% (67/5483), and 4.94% (271/5483), respectively. The co-infection rates of PEDV/PoRVA, PEDV/PDCoV, TGEV/PED/PoRVA, and PDCoV/PoRVA were 0.39%, 0.11%, 0.01%, and 0.03%, respectively, with no detection of other co-infections, as determined by the quadruplex real-time RT-qPCR. This research not only established a valuable tool for the simultaneous differentiation of TGEV, PEDV, PDCoV, and PoRVA in practical applications but also provided crucial insights into the prevalence of these viral pathogens causing diarrhea in Guangxi.

RESUMO

Introduction: Oryza alta Swallen is an allotetraploid perennial wild rice and contains CCDD genome, which may harbor favorable genes for the enrichment of genetic resource. Methods: A new wild rice line, Huaye 5, was developed from Oryza alta Swallen in our lab. Whole genome re-sequencing and pan-genomic analysis were employed to analyze its genomic variations and novel genes. Results and Discussion: More than ten million genomic variations were detected when compared with Asian cultivar. Among the variational genes, 724, 197 and 710 genes coded protein kinase, synthetase and transcription factor, respectively. A total of 353, 131 and 135 variational genes were associated with morphological trait, physiological trait, resistance or tolerance, respectively. A total of 62 were NBS-LRR genes were detected, in which 11 NBS-LRR genes expressed in sheath and mature stem, and 26 expressed in young and mature roots expressed. The pan-genome sequences of wild rice species with CCDD genome were constructed by integrating 8 Oryza alta (OA), 2 Oryza grandiglumis (OG) and 18 Oryza latifolia (OL) accessions. A total of 28 non-reference NBS-LRR genes were revealed, and 7 of which were mainly expressed in mature roots. This research demonstrated rich DNA variation in the Oryza alta Swallen that may provide a new germplasm for rice resistance breeding.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Diarrheic disease is a common intestinal health problem worldwide, causing great suffering to humans and animals. Precise manipulation strategies based on probiotics to combat diarrheic diseases have not been fully developed. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to investigate the molecular mechanisms by which probiotics manipulate macrophage against diarrheic disease. METHODS: Metagenome reveals gut microbiome profiles of healthy and diarrheic piglets. Fecal microbial transplantation (FMT) was employed to explore the causal relationship between gut microbes and diarrhea. The protective role of probiotics and their derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) was investigated in ETEC K88-infected mice. Macrophage depletion was performed to assess the role of macrophages in EVs against diarrhea. Execution of in vitro cell co-culture and transcriptome analyses elucidated the molecular mechanisms by which EVs modulate the macrophage and intestinal epithelial barrier. RESULTS: Escherichia coli was enriched in weaned diarrheic piglets, while Lactobacillus johnsonii (L. john) showed a negative correlation with Escherichia coli. The transmission of diarrheic illness symptoms was achieved by transferring fecal microbiota, but not metabolites, from diarrheic pigs to germ-free (GF) mice. L. john's intervention prevented the transmission of disease phenotypes from diarrheic piglets to GF mice. L. john also reduces the gut inflammation induced by ETEC K88. The EVs secreted by L. john demonstrated enhanced efficacy in mitigating the adverse impacts induced by ETEC K88 through the modulation of macrophage phenotype. In vitro experiments have revealed that EVs activate M2 macrophages in a manner that shuts down ERK, thereby inhibiting NLRP3 activation in intestinal epithelial cells. CONCLUSION: Our results reveal that intestinal microbiota drives the onset of diarrheic disease and that probiotic-derived EVs ameliorate diarrheic disease symptoms by modulating macrophage phenotypes. These findings can enhance the advancement of innovative therapeutic approaches for diarrheic conditions based on probiotic-derived EVs.

RESUMO

Due to the exclusive maternal transmission, oocyte mitochondrial dysfunction reduces fertility rates, affects embryonic development, and programs offspring to metabolic diseases. However, mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) are vulnerable to mutations during oocyte maturation, leading to mitochondrial nucleotide variations (mtSNVs) within a single oocyte, referring to mtDNA heteroplasmy. Obesity (OB) accounts for more than 40% of women at the reproductive age in the USA, but little is known about impacts of OB on mtSNVs in mature oocytes. It is found that OB reduces mtDNA content and increases mtSNVs in mature oocytes, which impairs mitochondrial energetic functions and oocyte quality. In mature oocytes, OB suppresses AMPK activity, aligned with an increased binding affinity of the ATF5-POLG protein complex to mutated mtDNA D-loop and protein-coding regions. Similarly, AMPK knockout increases the binding affinity of ATF5-POLG proteins to mutated mtDNA, leading to the replication of heteroplasmic mtDNA and impairing oocyte quality. Consistently, AMPK activation blocks the detrimental impacts of OB by preventing ATF5-POLG protein recruitment, improving oocyte maturation and mitochondrial energetics. Overall, the data uncover key features of AMPK activation in suppressing mtSNVs, and improving mitochondrial biogenesis and oocyte maturation in obese females.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: This study evaluated the methods and clinical effects of multidisciplinary collaborative treatment for occlusal reconstruction in patients with old jaw fractures and dentition defects. METHODS: Patients with old jaw fractures and dentition defects who underwent occlusal reconstruction at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Air Force Military Medical University from January 2018 to December 2022 were enrolled. Clinical treatment was classified into 3 phases. In phase I, techniques such as orthognathic surgery, microsurgery, and distraction osteogenesis were employed to reconstruct the correct three-dimensional (3D) jaw position relationship. In phase II, bone augmentation and soft tissue management techniques were utilized to address insufficient alveolar bone mass and poor gingival soft tissue conditions. In phase III, implant-supported overdentures or fixed dentures were used for occlusal reconstruction. A summary of treatment methods, clinical efficacy evaluation, comparative analysis of imageological examinations, and satisfaction questionnaire survey were utilized to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy in patients with traumatic old jaw fractures and dentition defects. All data are summarized using the arithmetic mean and standard deviation and compared using independent sample t-tests. RESULTS: In 15 patients with old jaw fractures and dentition defects (an average age of 32 years, ranging from 18 to 53 years), there were 7 cases of malocclusion of single maxillary fracture, 6 of malocclusion of single mandible fracture, and 2 of malocclusion of both maxillary and mandible fractures. There were 5 patients with single maxillary dentition defects, 2 with single mandibular dentition defects, and 8 with both maxillary and mandibular dentition defects. To reconstruct the correct 3D jaw positional relationship, 5 patients underwent Le Fort I osteotomy of the maxilla, 3 underwent bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy of the mandible, 4 underwent open reduction and internal fixation for old jaw fractures, 3 underwent temporomandibular joint surgery, and 4 underwent distraction osteogenesis. All patients underwent jawbone augmentation, of whom 4 patients underwent a free composite vascularized bone flap (26.66%) and the remaining patients underwent local alveolar bone augmentation. Free gingival graft and connective tissue graft were the main methods for soft tissue augmentation (73.33%). The 15 patients received 81 implants, of whom 11 patients received implant-supported fixed dentures and 4 received implant-supported removable dentures. The survival rate of all implants was 93.82%. The final imageological examination of 15 patients confirmed that the malocclusion was corrected, and the clinical treatment ultimately achieved occlusal function reconstruction. The patient satisfaction questionnaire survey showed that they were satisfied with the efficacy, phonetics, aesthetics, and comfort after treatment. CONCLUSION: Occlusal reconstruction of old jaw fractures and dentition defects requires a phased sequential comprehensive treatment, consisting of 3D spatial jaw correction, alveolar bone augmentation and soft tissue augmentation, and implant-supported occlusal reconstruction, achieving satisfactory clinical therapeutic efficacy.

RESUMO

Polyploid hybrid rice (Oryza sativa) has great potential for increasing yields. However, hybrid rice depends on male fertility and its regulation, which is less well studied in polyploid rice than in diploid rice. We previously identified a MYB transcription factor, MORE FLORET1 (MOF1), whose mutation causes male sterility in neo-tetraploid rice. MOF1 expression in anthers peaks at anther Stage 7 (S7) and progressively decreases to low levels at S10. However, it remains unclear how the dynamics of MOF1 expression contribute to male fertility. Here, we carefully examined anther development in both diploid and tetraploid mof1 rice mutants, as well as lines ectopically expressing MOF1 in a temporal manner. MOF1 mutations caused delayed degeneration of the tapetum and middle layer of anthers and aberrant pollen wall organization. Ectopic MOF1 expression at later stages of anther development led to retarded cytoplasmic reorganization of tapetal cells. In both cases, pollen grains were aborted and seed production was abolished, indicating that precise control of MOF1 expression is essential for male reproduction. We demonstrated that five key tapetal genes, CYP703A3 (CYTOCHROME P450 HYDROXYLASE 703A3), OsABCG26 (Oryza sativa ATP BINDING CASSETTE G26), PTC1 (PERSISTENT TAPETAL CELL1), PKS2 (POLYKETIDE SYNTHASE 2), and OsABCG15 (Oryza sativa ATP BINDING CASSETTE G15), exhibit expression patterns opposite to those of MOF1 and are negatively regulated by MOF1. Moreover, DNA affinity purification sequencing (DAP-seq), luciferase activity assays, and electrophoretic mobility shift assays indicated that MOF1 binds directly to the PKS2 promoter for transcriptional repression. Our results provide a mechanistic basis for the regulation of male reproduction by MOF1 in both diploid and tetraploid rice. This study will facilitate the development of polyploid male sterile lines, which are useful for breeding of polyploid hybrid rice.

RESUMO

Objectives: Antibodies to gp210 and sp100 are specific and unique anti-nuclear autoantibodies (ANAs) associated with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC). Importantly the presence of anti-gp210 and anti-sp100 responses is indicative of poor clinical outcomes. However, the utility of measuring titers of these antibodies remains unclear. Materials and methods: Using the in-house purified gp210 (HSA108-C18) and sp100 (amino acid position 296-386), we quantitatively measured serum autoantibodies to gp210 and sp100 using chemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA) in a very large cohort of 390 patients with PBC, including 259 cases with no prior ursodesoxycholic acid (UDCA) treatment and 131 cases with UDCA treatment. We also analyzed serial changes in anti-gp210 and anti-sp100 levels in 245 sequential samples from 88 patients. Results: In our cross-sectional analysis, we detected anti-gp210 immunoglobulin G (IgG) and anti-sp100 IgG autoantibodies in 129 out of 390 (33.1%) and 80 out of 390 (20.5%) PBC patients, respectively. Multivariate analysis revealed that serum IgG (st.ß = 0.35, P = 0.003) and gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) (st.ß = 0.23, P = 0.042) levels at baseline were independently associated with anti-gp210 concentrations. In serial testing, we observed significant fluctuations in anti-gp210 antibody levels. These fluctuations reflected responsiveness to UDCA therapy, particularly in anti-gp210-positive patients with initially lower concentrations in the stages of disease. Conclusions: Our study reflects that quantitative changes of anti-gp210 antibody are indicative of UDCA responses. There is a great need for newer metrics in PBC and we suggest that a more detailed and longer study of these unique ANAs is warranted.

RESUMO

The capture of carbon dioxide (CO2) from fuel gases is a significant method to solve the global warming problem. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are considered to be promising porous materials and have shown great potential for CO2 adsorption and separation applications. However, the adsorption and diffusion mechanisms of CO2 in functionalized MOFs from the perspective of binding energies are still not clear. Actually, the adsorption and diffusion mechanisms can be revealed more intuitively by the binding energies of CO2 with the functionalized MOFs. In this work, a combination of molecular dynamics simulation and density functional theory calculation was performed to study CO2 adsorption and diffusion mechanisms in five different functionalized isoreticular MOFs (IRMOF-1 through -5), considering the influence of functionalized linkers on the adsorption capacity of functionalized MOFs. The results show that the CO2 uptake is determined by two elements: the binding energy and porosity of MOFs. The porosity of the MOFs plays a dominant role in IRMOF-5, resulting in the lowest level of CO2 uptake. The potential of mean force (PMF) of CO2 is strongest at the CO2/functionalized MOFs interface, which is consistent with the maximum CO2 density distribution at the interface. IRMOF-3 with the functionalized linker -NH2 shows the highest CO2 uptake due to the higher porosity and binding energy. Although IRMOF-5 with the functionalized linker -OC5H11 exhibits the lowest diffusivity of CO2 and the highest binding energy, it shows the lowest CO2 uptake. Accordingly, among the five simulated functionalized MOFs, IRMOF-3 is an excellent CO2 adsorbent and IRMOF-5 can be used to separate CO2 from other gases, which will be helpful for the designing of CO2 capture devices. This work will contribute to the design and screening of materials for CO2 adsorption and separation in practical applications.

RESUMO

Lead (Pb) is toxic to the development and growth of rice plants. Nanoparticles (NPs) have been considered one of the efficient remediation techniques to mitigate Pb stress in plants. Therefore, a study was carried out to examine the underlying mechanism of iron (Fe) and silicon (Si) nanoparticle-induced Pb toxicity alleviation in rice seedlings. Si-NPs (2.5 mM) and Fe-NPs (25 mg L-1) were applied alone and in combination to rice plants grown without (control; no Pb stress) and with (100 µM) Pb concentration. Our results revealed that Pb toxicity severely affected all rice growth-related traits, such as inhibited root fresh weight (42%), shoot length (24%), and chlorophyll b contents (26%). Moreover, a substantial amount of Pb was translocated to the above-ground parts of plants, which caused a disturbance in the antioxidative enzyme activities. However, the synergetic use of Fe- and Si-NPs reduced the Pb contents in the upper part of plants by 27%. It reduced the lethal impact of Pb on roots and shoots growth parameters by increasing shoot length (40%), shoot fresh weight (48%), and roots fresh weight (31%). Both Si and Fe-NPs synergistic application significantly elevated superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione (GSH) concentrations by 114%, 186%, 135%, and 151%, respectively, compared to plants subjected to Pb stress alone. The toxicity of Pb resulted in several cellular abnormalities and altered the expression levels of metal transporters and antioxidant genes. We conclude that the synergistic application of Si and Fe-NPs can be deemed favorable, environmentally promising, and cost-effective for reducing Pb deadliness in rice crops and reclaiming Pb-polluted soils.

RESUMO

MAIN CONCLUSION: The up-regulation of OsmiR5519 results in the decrease of grain size, weight and seed setting rate. OsmiR5519 plays important roles in the process of grain filling and down-regulates sucrose synthase gene RSUS2. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are one class of small non-coding RNAs that act as crucial regulators of plant growth and development. In rice, the conserved miRNAs were revealed to regulate the yield components, but the function of rice-specific miRNAs has been rarely studied. The rice-specific OsmiR5519 was found to be abundantly expressed during reproductive development, but its biological roles remain unknown. In this study, the function of rice-specific OsmiR5519 was characterized with the miR5519-overexpressing line (miR5519-OE) and miR5519-silenced line (STTM5519). At seedling stage, the content of sucrose, glucose and fructose was obviously lower in the leaves of miR5519-OE lines than those of wild-type (WT) line. The grain size and weight were decreased significantly in miR5519-OE lines, compared to those of WT rice. The cell width of hull in miR5519-OE was smaller than that in WT. The seed setting rate was notably reduced in miR5519-OE lines, but not in STTM5519 lines. Cytological observation demonstrated that the inadequate grain filling was the main reason for the decline of seed setting rate in miR5519-OE lines. The percentage of the defects of grain amounted to 40% in miR5519-OE lines, which almost equaled to the decreased value of seed setting rate. Furthermore, the sucrose synthase gene RSUS2 was identified as a target of OsmiR5519 via RNA ligase-mediated 3'-amplification of cDNA ends (3'-RLM-RACE), dual luciferase assays and transient expression assays. In summary, our results suggest that OsmiR5519 regulates grain size and weight and down-regulates RSUS2 in rice.

RESUMO

Continuous-flow microfluidic devices have been extensively used for producing liposomes due to their high controllability and efficient synthesis processes. However, traditional methods for liposome purification, such as dialysis, gel chromatography, and ultrafiltration, are incompatible with microfluidic devices, which would dramatically restrict the efficiency of liposome synthesis. In this study, we developed a dialysis-functionalized microfluidic platform (DFMP) for in situ formation of purified drug-loaded liposomes. The device was successfully fabricated by using a high-resolution projection micro stereolithography (PµSL) 3D printer. The integrated DFMP consists of a microfluidic mixing unit, a microfluidic dialysis unit, and a dialysis membrane, enabling the liposome preparation and purification in one device. The purified ICG-loaded liposomes prepared by DFMP had a smaller size (264.01±5.34 nm to 173.93±10.71 nm) and a higher encapsulation efficiency (EE) (43.53±0.07% to 46.07±0.67%). In vivo photoacoustic (PA) imaging experiment demonstrated that ICG-loaded liposomes purified with microfluidic dialysis exhibited a stronger penetration and accumulation (2-3 folds) in tumor sites. This work provides a new strategy for one-step production of purified drug-loaded liposomes.

RESUMO

Background: The low osteogenic differentiation potential and attenuated anti-inflammatory effect of adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) from animals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) limits osseointegration of the implant. However, the underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. Methods: Western blotting and qRT-PCR analyses were performed to investigate the effects of PTEN on the osteogenic capacity of ADSCs of T2DM rats (TADSCs). We conducted animal experiments in T2DM-Sprague Dawley (SD) rats to evaluate the osteogenic capacity of modified TADSC sheets in vivo. New bone formation was assessed by micro-CT and histological analyses. Results: In this study, adipose-derived stem cells of T2DM rats exhibited an impaired osteogenic capacity. RNA-seq analysis showed that PTEN mRNA expression was upregulated in TADSCs, which attenuated the osteogenic capacity of TADSCs by inhibiting the AKT/mTOR/HIF-1α signaling pathway. miR-140-3p, which inhibits PTEN, was suppressed in TADSCs. Overexpression or inhibition of PTEN could correspondingly reduce or enhance the osteogenic ability of TADSCs by regulating the AKT/mTOR/HIF-1α signaling pathway. TADSCs transfected with PTEN siRNA resulted in higher and lower expressions of genes encoded in M2 macrophages (Arg1) and M1 macrophages (iNOS), respectively. In the T2DM rat model, PTEN inhibition in TADSC sheets promoted macrophage polarization toward the M2 phenotype, attenuated inflammation, and enhanced osseointegration around implants. Conclusion: Upregulation of PTEN, which was partially due to the inhibition of miR-140-3p, is important for the attenuated osteogenesis by TADSCs owing to the inhibition of the AKT/mTOR/HIF-1α signaling pathway. Inhibition of PTEN significantly improves the anti-inflammatory effect and osteogenic capacity of TADSCs, thus promoting peri-implant bone formation in T2DM rats. Our findings offer a potential therapeutic approach for modifying stem cells derived from patients with T2DM to enhance osseointegration.

RESUMO

The biliary epithelial cells release CC chemokine receptor 6 (CCR6) ligand 20 (CCL20), leading to recruitment of CCR6+ T cells and subsequent infiltration into the biliary epithelium in primary biliary cholangitis patients. Previous genome-wide multi-national meta-analysis, including our Han Chinese cohort, showed significant association of CCR6 and CCL20 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) with PBC. We report here that significantly associated SNPs, identified in the CCR6 locus based on our Han Chinese genome-wide association study, can be separated into "protective" and "risk" groups, but only "risk" SNPs were confirmed using a separate Han Chinese PBC cohort. Only weak association of CCL20 SNPs was observed in Han Chinese PBC cohorts. Fine-mapping and logistical analysis identified a previously defined functional variant that, leads to increased CCR6 expression, which contributed to increased genetic susceptibility to PBC in Han Chinese cohort.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The problem of overweight obesity and decrease in muscle strength among university students has become an indisputable fact. In this study, a comprehensive index reflecting obesity degree a body shape index (ABSI) and a comprehensive index reflecting muscle strength muscle strength index (MSI) were studied to analyze the cross-sectional correlations existing between them. METHODS: This study began recruiting participants and conducting the test survey in April 2022 and closed in July 2022. Basic condition, height, weight, waist circumference, grip strength, pull-up (boys), bent-leg sit-up (girls), and standing long jump were tested on 12,046 (boys: 6011, 49.90%) university students aged 19-22 years in China, and ABSI and MSI were calculated separately. ABSI was categorized into 5 groups according to age and sex, namely ABSI < 5th percentile (A), 5th ≤ ABSI < 25th percentile (B), 25th ≤ ABSI < 75th percentile (C), 75th ≤ ABSI < 95th percentile (D) and ABSI ≥ 95th percentile (E). The comparison of MSI between different ABSI groups was performed using effect size, and the association between them was performed by curve estimation analysis. RESULTS: The association between ABSI and MSI of Chinese university students showed an inverted "U" curve. The effect of increased ABSI on MSI was greater in university girls compared to boys. The ABSI of boys was (0.080 ± 0.010) and MSI was (-0.005 ± 2.080); the ABSI of girls was (0.079 ± 0.008) and MSI was (-0.017 ± 1.867). Overall, university students ABSI was at a relatively high point for MSI between 0.050 and 0.100. The university students ABSI at 0.150 had an MSI of -1.229 for boys and - 2.779 for girls. CONCLUSION: The ABSI of Chinese university students showed an inverted "U"-shaped curve relationship with MSI, and university students with low or high ABSI had lower MSI. The effect of increasing ABSI on the decrease of MSI was more obvious for girls than for boys.

RESUMO

Discerning weak electric fields has important implications for cosmology, quantum technology, and identifying power system failures. Photonic integration of electric field sensors is highly desired for practical considerations and offers opportunities to improve performance by enhancing microwave and lightwave interactions. Here, we demonstrate a high-Q microcavity electric field sensor (MEFS) by leveraging the silicon chip-based thin film lithium niobate photonic integrated circuits. Using the Pound-Drever-Hall detection scheme, our MEFS achieves a detection sensitivity of 5.2 µV/(m[Formula: see text]), which surpasses previous lithium niobate electro-optical electric field sensors by nearly two orders of magnitude, and is comparable to atom-based quantum sensing approaches. Furthermore, our MEFS has a bandwidth that can be up to three orders of magnitude broader than quantum sensing approaches and measures fast electric field amplitude and phase variations in real-time. The ultra-sensitive MEFSs represent a significant step towards building electric field sensing networks and broaden the application spectrum of integrated microcavities.

RESUMO

Optical imaging and phototherapy in deep tissues face notable challenges due to light scattering. We use encoded acoustic holograms to generate three-dimensional acoustic fields within the target medium, enabling instantaneous and robust modulation of the volumetric refractive index, thereby noninvasively controlling the trajectory of light. Through this approach, we achieved a remarkable 24.3% increase in tissue heating rate in vitro photothermal effect tests on porcine skin. In vivo photoacoustic imaging of mouse brain vasculature exhibits an improved signal-to-noise ratio through the intact scalp and skull. These findings demonstrate that our strategy can effectively suppress light scattering in complex biological tissues by inducing low-angle scattering, achieving an effective depth reaching the millimeter scale. The versatility of this strategy extends its potential applications to neuroscience, lithography, and additive manufacturing.

RESUMO

Background: Blockchain is expected to mitigate consumers' risk-aversion and quality uncertainty about generic drugs in medicine supply chains. This study investigates the effect of blockchain adoption for disclosing the quality information of generic drugs that compete with original drugs in the market and proposes legal measures accordingly. Methods: We employ a game-theoretic model to analyze a medicine supply chain including a generic drug manufacturer, an original drug manufacturer, and a retailer. We examine when should the supply chain members adopt blockchain for generic drugs and how blockchain affects the medicine supply chain. Results: Our results show that the quality information of generic drugs determines how blockchain adoption affects the price and sales quantity of generic and original drugs. Moreover, we observe that the generic drugs manufacturer and the retailer decide to adopt blockchain only if consumers' risk-aversion degree is sufficiently low. Also, a low risk-aversion degree can lead to higher whole supply chain's profitability with blockchain adoption, and generate a win-win-win situation of blockchain adoption for the consumers, the generic drug manufacturer, and the retailer. Conclusion: To mitigate consumers' risk aversion, the law should safeguard consumer rights. Blockchain adoption can benefit the medicine supply chain and consumers under certain conditions. However, it also requires the coordination of supply chain members' benefits and the disclosure of quality information.

RESUMO

This study focuses on distributed event-triggered consensus control under the scenario where only inaccurate agent model information is available. By designing a novel triggering error, a distributed dynamic event-triggered consensus (DETC) protocol is proposed for multiagent systems (MASs) with general linear dynamics over digraphs, without accurate a priori information of agent models. To improve the efficiency of the dynamic triggering law, a mixed triggering threshold is designed with a resilient function integrated to further enlarge interevent intervals. Within the proposed DETC protocol, the computational cost is significantly reduced especially for MASs with nonsparse and high-dimensional agent system matrices. In addition, for each individual agent, the states of neighboring agents used for triggering detections or controller updates are required in an on-demand (instead of continuous) way, which preserves communication resources and facilitates practical implementation. The feasibility of the designed DETC protocol is corroborated by rigorous theoretical analysis on consensus convergence and Zeno behavior exclusion. Finally, simulations are shown to demonstrate the effectiveness of the studied theory.
